Businesses: Enrolled for the JobKeeper Payment and identified your eligible employees? You’ll need to make a monthly business declaration between the 1st and 14th day of each month to be reimbursed for employees you’ve paid ✔️

The earlier you declare, the sooner you will be reimbursed for the JobKeeper payments 📅 For more info, visit www.ato.gov.au/General/JobKeeper-Payment/In-detail/JobKeeper-key-dates/

Small business owners: Do you know if you can claim a deduction for the business portion of assets you bought last financial year in your tax return?

Rather than depreciate the cost over a longer time, you can use the instant asset write-off to claim for multiple assets, big or small, as long as they cost less than the threshold – including things like:
🔨 Tools of your trade
🖨️ Gadgets and tech
🗄️ Furniture and storage
🛵 Even vehicles!

Different thresholds apply depending on when you first used or installed the asset. Check which rules apply to you at www.ato.gov.au/business/depreciation-and-capital-expenses-and-allowances/simpler-depreciation-for-small-business

Whether you run an online store, plumbing business, or photography studio, if your business is based at home you may be able to claim the business portion of some associated expenses.
What you can claim depends on your business structure, and whether part of your house is a ‘place of business’.

Read more about what you may be able to claim and when at www.ato.gov.au/Business/Income-and-deductions-for-business/Deductions/Deductions-for-home-based-business-expenses/

If you pay contractors to provide IT, security or road freight services on your behalf, you may need to lodge a taxable payments annual report (TPAR) in 2020.

Keeping accurate records of the payments you make to contractors now will make it easier when it’s time to lodge! Details you need to record include:
✏️ name and address of contractor
✏️ ABN (use the ABN Lookup tool to make sure you have the right number)
✏️ the total amount you paid (including GST).

Not sure if you’ll need to report? Find out more at www.ato.gov.au/Business/Reports-and-returns/Taxable-payments-annual-report/
